How was the mural developed?

The mural was inspired by the voices of Nottingham children, who shared their ideas about what healthy communication means to them in the Spring of 2025. Pupils from nine local primary schools contributed their thoughts through an interactive Padlet platform. Artist Millie Yarwood carefully explored the responses and used the children's words and insights as the creative foundation for this mural.

What is RSE Day?

RSE Day (Relationships and Sex Education Day) is a national day of celebration that promotes the importance of positive relationships and effective RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) in schools, homes, and communities.  It was founded in Nottingham and is celebrated annually across the UK. The day encourages children, young people, families, and educators to engage in conversations, activities, and creative projects that support healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, respect, and inclusion.  Each year, RSE Day has a different theme—the 2025 theme is ‘Communicate’.

RSE Day aims to:

  • Celebrate good practice in RSE.

  • Raise awareness about the value of teaching and talking about relationships.

  • Encourage everyone to get involved in creating a culture of kindness, respect, and healthy communication.
